Being from Philly, I can say that in my experience getting tickets at the stadium depends on who they are playing, how well they are doing and where you are willing to sit. The ticket sellers outside of the stadium are hit-or-miss with what availability they have and the premium you are going to pay.

I think that picking up tickets online is not a bad idea.
Thanks Rob. They are playing Houston. I found 4 cheap seats on line. I think I will get them just to be sure I have some. Hate to travel there and not be able to get in. Not a fan of purchasing from scalpers. We don't need great seats, I am sure the guys will be spending a lot of time walking around taking in the whole park. I have been there several years ago.
Thanks again for the help.
I think you made the right decision. The Phillies are getting hot and if you don't like dealing with scalpers, you run the risk of being sold out. Enjoy your trip, Dan!
You should definitely buy ahead for a Phillies game, good call. You could go on StubHub the day before and probably find a good deal, but I wouldn't chance it since the Phillies sell so well. Keep in mind this team won this city's first major sports championship in 26 years!

Ever been to Philly before? I can pass along some tips if you want.
Thanks Kurt, We did purchase our tickets already after getting tips from the Ball Park Chasers. Looking forward to see the Phillies in a couple of weeks, they are playing good ball. 2 of us on this trip have been to one Phillies game several years ago but the rest of our crew has never been there. Is "jacks firehouse" a good stop to eat in Philly?
I've never been to Jack's so I couldn't tell you about that one.

If you want you can go to Chickie's And Pete's on Packer Avenue well before the game for a meal. They valet park your car for $10 (it's $15 at the park), and they have a "Taxi Crab" shuttle that takes you to the park and back to your car, and you should have an easy exit form there. Chickie's has the famous crab fries and they're cheaper there than at their stand in the ballpark, plus they give you more cheese dip and you don't have to stand and wait as long. And you get get a beer more cheaply and free water, those fries will catch up to you.

You can read more about it on my blog (shameless plug): http://ballparkinsider.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/06/the-taxi-crab--...
