30 Ballparks/30 Teams

For those people that have seen a baseball game in each major league city. Even if they are not all current--just use the brackets.

The logo chosen for this group represents the long hours driving on the road to achieve this feat.

working on it: still need to go to:
    Arizona
    Colorado
    Kansas City
St. Louis (new) - went to old
Minnesota (new) - went to the dome)
    Toronto
    Pittsburgh
    Washington (new) (went to RFK)

2011 trip at this point, we are shooting for colorado, kc, stl, min, pitt.

i have went to old and new in milwaukee, nyy, nym, philly, texas
  • Robert Boudreaux

I have been to all 30 cities. Have not been to Target Field or Nationals Park, amongst current stadiums. But I have done Metrodome and RFK. Also have visited Old Arlington Stadium, Astrodome (Many times), Riverfront, Old Yankee, and Shea.
  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

That is good Robert, it is tough to keep maintaining the current-- i lucked out in barely viewing 5 innings at target field last week due to the oldtimers game pushing the starting time back to 2:15--not good when you have a 6:00 flight
  • Thirty26(42)

Doug. Some day, we should meet up and go to a game. It would be pretty cool to get the 6 people in the world who have done 30-30 or less together.
  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Yeah, a game would be good. I still say we should all pitch ESPN about a reality show like the amazing race but do it with ballparks. The stuff that can happen while attempting to visit a stadium is incredible
  • Thirty26(42)

I agree about the reality show. I tried working on a segment with MLB Productions but it never got past the opening ideas (treatment). Perhaps, if more people are involved then something could happen. MLB Network needs offseason programming. I think more segments should be dedicated to fans. We always here about the players (which is nice) but there are millions of die hard fans including those on ballparkchasers.
  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

I am hoping that the book I am writing will help with the publicity of that kind of thing too. Even if MLB doesnt use the fans as much--they should dedicate more time to exploring each individual park-it is what makes baseball so unique. That is why I can't thank Craig enough for starting this website. It encourages all of us to ballpark chase.
  • Dutch Van Duzee

I've been to all 30 current parks; 40 total. Enjoyed visiting Target Field back in June; October baseball should be interesting this year if the Twins advance far.

Next new park will open in 2012 in Miami, new home of the Miami Marlins. They need to build a new one in St. Pete too for the Rays.
  • Doug

there are so many good stories about baseball trips.
my buddies and i do 5 ballparks every 2 years... started in 2003. i have been lucky enough to get to a handful more parks then my friends i travel with though. ...
  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

That field is so much better then the METRODOME. As hardcore fans like we all are--baseball is better outdoors--although I do like the modern parks that have the retractable roofs like Miller and Safeco to protect against the elements but it would have cost $150million to the STATE of MN and that is a lot of dough for maybe a handful of rainouts
  • Thirty26(42)

  • Roger Ratzenberger (30/45)

I've been to all of the Major League cities having seen games in 41 different stadiums. Alas, the opening of Target Field this year has once again left me one short of the active 30. I hoped to close it out this year but was unable to schedule a trip. In the words of all Mets fans, "wait until next year". I look forward to finish (again) in time to have to return to Florida in 2012.

For good measures, I have 12 minor league (so far) and 7 assorted others (unaffiliated leagues, Doubleday Field, Nagoya Dome, etc) to add as well.
  • 30 Ballparks and a Baby (31)

Chuck, this is great. We (Sofia, her mom and me) did all current parks last summer. Now we need to get to Target field. Without the family I have hit 6 ballparks that no longer exist: Memorial Stadium, old Yankee Stadium, Shea, RFK, Candlestick, and old Busch Stadium. And the stadium the Marlins play in with the 10 or so different names! ;)

  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

I think despite not being to the newer ballparks as long as you have been to the city for a game before you can almost sense what the crowd will still be like at the new ballparks. The parks I have been to that no longer exist are -SHEA STADIUM/OLD YANKEE STADIUM/THE METRODOME AND OLYMPIC STADIUM. I think Football would be okay to visit all the stadiums as they are all different but that is harder to do with games only being on Sundays mostly. Baseball lends itself to this better than the other sports also because of ticket prices and the weather is generally better across the board becuase it is during summertime.

the logo chosen represents all the hard hours each of us has endured in order to have done this feat.
  • Kurt Smith

Oh...didn't know I had to see all of them...haven't done that yet...am I kicked out of the club?
  • Martyn Bailey (30 / 50)

    Hey all,

    Love the site!

So I've run out of ballparks, and am looking to add neutral site parks while I wait for Miami and Oakland to open.  Does anyone have any good tips on finding out about neutral site games?

I'm hoping to add Hiram Bithorn in 2011 if the Marlins go back to San Juan.  I've never had a chance to catch any of the games down there.

Has anyone heard anything more about the Marlins home series v. the Mariners June 24-26 being moved elsewhere due to U2 concert in Miami?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have!

    Cheers,
    Martyn

  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Welcome to any new members-I see Martyn30/46 is a new member.  The good news is that my book will be coming out in early spring and will feature many new additions to Craig's awesome ballpark chaser guides.  My expertise is more in the area of car rentals-airport flights and taking advantage of loopholes in all of those traveling industries.

As for the parks themselves, there are definitely people who have more knowledge on any specific park-but the book has a nice close-up look at each of the thirty parks to enhance your visits.

There is going to be a big media tour with the release of this book and it is my hope to bring awareness to the world-about us 'ballpark chasers'-as we are a rare sports fan.  Make sure you tell all of your friends that love baseball chasing too.

The book is going to be called-'The Fastest 30 Ballgames-A World Record Holder's Story.'  Not only does it chronice the 2 summers I chased the world record, but it is filled with stadium descriptions, park nuances, travel tips, lots of links to help you in your road trips, but there are fellow chaser profiles from right here at BP chasers.  Craig Landgren and Ken Lee are my co-authors.  The book will be available on E-books at Amazon& Barnes and Noble. I will keep you up to date as the book goes live..

  • Scott Bell (30/42)

    4/20/11 -Mission Accomplished (for now)

Back to the new Miami ballpark next year to keep in stride

I guess then I turn into Scott Bell -30/43

    WILL THIS EVER END ????

  • Emilio Cordova (30/34)

As of May 9, 2011, I am at 30/33.  Of course, looking forward to the new Marlins Ballpark in April 2012.  Would you also count ballpark, if they change their names as well? or is that too much?  Not included in my numbers are the likes of the multiple Marlins Ballpark name changes, and the Giants as well.
  • 30 Ballparks and a Baby (31)

    Emilio,

Like you, I used to double (quintuple counted for Sun Life Stadium) count ballparks to include all name changes, but it was my wife that stated, its all the same ballpark. From that day forward I only count a ballpark once, no matter the number of name changes.

    Hope that helps,

    Roberto

  • Emilio Cordova (30/34)

Thanks Roberto! I agree. I am officially still 30/33. However, I would love to count special events such as Playoff Games, World Series, All Star Games. Even though those games occur at ballparks that I have already been to, there is always an excitement about a World Series or Playoff Game that makes it special.

    Best regards,

    Emilio
  • Martyn Bailey (30 / 50)

Congrats Emilio!  I know what you mean, once you get to 30, it's hard to not have something to chase!  I try to keep my eyes open for neutral site games.  Disney World, Puerto Rico, etc...  They just can't make these stadiums quick enough!  Is Oakland still set for 2014?
  • Emilio Cordova (30/34)

Martin, the latest on Oakland is shown on the link below:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703509104576327301028...

This was five days ago. Without a move out of Oakland, there is little hope.

I am looking forward to the Marlins new Ballpark in 2012, and going to neutral sites is a good idea. Thanks for the tip!

    Best regards,

    Emilio
  • Paul Swaney (19)

Congrats Chuck! Just bought my copy...
  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Awesome Paul, this is going to be huge, we have many MLB reps that are interested in reviewing it and interviews will follow after wards..
  • 30 Ballparks and a Baby (31)

    Hey Chuck,

    Congratulations on publishing your book.

We just ordered my copy of your book and we can't wait to read it!

  • Bob Reiley

I just found this site.  I didn't know there were so many people with my same obsession!  And to think that most of my friends think I'm crazy!  Oh well, now I'm waiting somewhat impatiently for the new Marlin stadium.
  • Jim Wood (46 MLB)

Proud to be the latest member of this group.  Looking forward to checking out the new Marlins ballpark in 2012!
  • Patrick Reyes (32)

I totally forgot to join this group when I finished my 30 stadiums in September. Looking forward to getting out to Miami at some point this season.
  • Emilio Cordova (30/34)

I am looking forward to the new ballpark in Miami and the Opening Day Game! I was there for their first game ever in 1993 and then this past September for their last game as the Florida Marlins. It should be a blast!
  • Thequesters Too

I know most of us will travel to Miami to take the Marlins stadium off our lists but does anybody else feel that the way this particular stadium deal went down is bringing all of baseball down with it?

  • Kurt Smith

Thequesters, as much as I love the new ballparks, I don't like the idea of taxpayers funding them. I agree it doesn't help baseball's image. If the Giants can pay for their own ballpark I don't see why no other team can.

In baseball it started with Camden Yards, or more specifically when the Colts left Baltimore partly because the city wouldn't build them a new facility. Camden Yards was built with a lottery, which is less offensive to me, but since then ballparks have been built with hotel, restaurant, and rental car taxes and such. So when you rent a car in some cities there's a big stadium tax attached to the price.

I suppose there are worse things that taxpayer money is spent on (and I'm not going any further down that road), but that doesn't make it right.

  • Martyn Bailey (30 / 50)

Me and a group are heading down to Miami for the July 1st game (MLB Park 47).  I'm the only one of my friends to have visited the Trop, so we're going to hit it up June 28th.  Season can't get here soon enough!!

  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Awesome Martyn.  I will be there on April.17 as part of my 30 MLB Parks in 20 days Guinness Bid.

  • Martyn Bailey (30 / 50)

For a trip like that, you gotta love the roof!!  Good luck!

  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Absolutely in Miami!!  It rains every day in Southern Florida-what is even better is that it is a night game and only 1 game that day

  • Emilio Cordova (30/34)

Went last night to the Marlins Opening Night. The stadium is nice, and the retractable roof is a plus. The one negative of the stadium is the noise inside the stadium, and I don't mean fans cheering on their team. It seems like the void of the field causes anamplificationof noise. Has anyone ever had this happen at other ball parks?
  • peter nagel II

Went to all 30 ballparks in 2007 and have stayed current - Marlins Park in June will get me back to the 30 Stadium club!

  • Robert Boudreaux

It will be done.  I am visiting Marlin's Park on May 25 to put my butt in all 30 current parks.  I have also visited 8 retired parks and about 15 minor league parks.  Guess when you have a job that takes you all over the country with you nights off, gotta catch some baseball

  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Awesome job Robert.  Just take yourself some sunglasses when you hit that ball park in Miami, she has some puke green colors in there.

  • Brenda Franklin

My husband and I are headed to Miami this Sunday to visit our last active MLB home ballpark. Current stats:  29 active MLB, 37 total MLB, 83 total ballparks (MLB, minor league and independent league).  Any suggestions for a cool "#30" sign to commemorate the event?

  • Chuck Booth (35) ALL 30/23 DAYS!

Congrats to you and your husband Brenda, that is a great feat.  Take a picture of you guys there and post it on here.

  • Kurt Smith

Hi Brenda - how about "30 And Counting...get on it, Oakland!"

  • Jim Wood (46 MLB)

    Brenda,
Have you called the Marlins front office? They might be able to put something up on the scoreboard for you saying congratulations. If you try this out please let me know as I'll be at my final ballpark (Marlins Park) in June....
  • Alejandro Alicea

Congrats to all 30 BP members. I just visited my 30th last night. It was awesome. Looking to do the spring training in '14....

  • Fred Allman (50total/30 current)

On my way to getting back to being able to say I've been to all 30 parks. I accomplished the goal in 1998 and am now working on getting to the new parks. Washington, Miami, Minnesota and San Diego are the four I need to see. My two most memorable games of all time are Game 6 of the 1991 World Series in Minnesota when Puckett won it in the 11th with a homer that resulted in the loudest roar I've ever heard in a stadium and Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS...yes...I was at the Bartman game.

  • James Duggan Jr(41MLB 32MILB 4ST

30 for 30 completed last year at Safeco!! and again this year at Suntrust in ATL!! it was along time coming! now seeing whatever stadiums I get to while waiting for Texas' NEW stadium!!!

  • Jo Ann Thee

Made the 30 teams this year.  Started in 1996 with my husband and 2 boys ages 3 and 6.  Husband, youngest and I made to all the parks.  Our traditions included being there for the national Anthem, taking a picture with the scoreboard in the background, and purchasing a ball with the team logo.

  • Fred Allman (50total/30 current)

Great job!  Atlanta last year got me to all 30 current and 50 total.  I really like your tradition of buying a ball with the team logo on it.
