Craig,
While Great American gets a bad rap for not having much entertainment nearby I think there are many options for you if you're willing to look around a little. As far as parkings concerned there are lots nearby, but on my budget I park in the Fountain Square Garage on 5th and Vine or in what we call the "gravel lot" west of Great American and Across from Paul Brown Stadium and are great if you're willing to walk. For a visitor I'd recommend Fountain Square. There are a few resturants nearby (I'd recommend Rock Bottom Brewery. You can check out Game Day Cafe which is a short walk east of the stadium which is also a pretty good sports bar or the In Between Tavern is not bad either. If your budget and time permits you need to get to Montgomry Inn, which is a short drive from the stadium. As far as hotels the Hyatt downtown is really nice and there are a few other pretty good hotels downtown. If you're shopping in my price range there's a travel lodge in newport right across the river and you can see the park from the balcony. I'm not sure how nice it is but its a very easy walk across the bridge to the park and close to Neport on the Levee, with all sorts of resturant and bar choices. Staying here would also take care of parking as well as would staying downtown. Haufbrau haus in Newport is also a fun bar to go to after games if you're into drinking huge mugs of beers and dancing on tables while dancing to polka. Hope this helps. GO REDS!
Thanks Craig - I found this site while researching the chase for all 30 in one season. I plan to use the blogging feature as well as upload pics from each stadium along the way.
Hey! Thanks. I'm gonna try and upload my pics. I can't find my pics from Montreal or the Vet, but I have everything else including Puerto Rico. What stadiums are you missing? I'm sure you need to see the new Mets and Yanks stadium. That's my hometown and I have season tix to both, though I'm a die hard METS fan.
Thanks for the welcome Craig. I love what you're doing here. My wife just stumbled across this site today and thought it would be a great way to chronicle our quest. Our goal is to get our son (currently 9yo) to all 30 MLB parks before he goes to college. Right now he's at 8, but has to get back to Wrigley so it's an actual memory. His only visit was @ 6 months old.
We have tickets for the Reds game on Easter, so Great American Ballpark is next. Thinking Comerica and Toronto are on the docket in the summer. So hopefully, we'll have him up to 11 by the end of the 2009 season.
The dagger is already in and now you have to twist it like that. You are such a good friend. Thanks, thanks a lot. Have you decided when your going yet?
Hi Craig - I found this site doing research for my website and it's absolutely fantastic... it's given me quite a bit of ballpark travel envy.
baseballtripplanner.com is the site that I've been working on - I'm constantly updating it and adding features. I hope it can be helpful to fellow chasers and will welcome any feedback.
Thanks for the positive words, Craig. Sadly, I am just loading the summer of 2008. The wet weather of the East Coast so far this spring has postponed my visits to any new ballparks. Regardless, I don't think 2009 is going to approach the 60 ballparks of 2008. Although I hope to finish off the Eastern and Carolina League parks, continue to make a dent in the International League and hit some of the newer parks in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Maybe an Alabama/Tennessee swing too. See you at the ballpark!
hey craig doug49 here i posted my blog on my 49 and counting. I am not computer literite so my question is does everybody see this or is there someting else I have to do to get it out there or is it already done
I plan on updating later when i get to the next parks thanks Doug (49)
Thanks for the welcome! Looks like a great site. Will post some pics soon. Glad that there are other crazy baseball fans in the world like me. We can all chase those ballparks together.
Hi Craig! Thanks for the welcome! I'll be visiting Safeco yet again this Friday vs D-Backs, and my friend and I are going to PGE Park in Portland Wednesday, Cheney Stadium in Tacoma Thursday, and Safeco Friday for three games in 3 days! Pics forthcoming...
Thanks, I love the concept of this website - but what I'm really looking for is some site where I can just check off the parks I've been to in a fun way that I can share (like post on my facebook page). I don't want to have to type in each park I've been to. A cool map with the teams logo that would pop up when I select that team would be neat. (and it would be great to have past parks too since some of the places I've been to are no longer around)
