Yes, that is true. This was my favorite ball displayed in the HOF because the funny story of it.

That's Bonds record breaking HR ball that Mark Ecko bought then put a vote online for. I remember the choices were brand it w/the asterix (above), blow it up, and launch it into space. (I still can't believe that launch it into space didn't win!) At the time I remember there was debate about whether the HOF would accept it once it had been modified.
