Moneyball

The movie is fantastic.  Superb acting (love the scene with the 'old timer' scouts).  That was perfectly done.  The sound/no sound in the movie was fantastic during that 20th game.

It's a good date movie, it's a good guys/gals night out movie.  It's a good movie.  I probably would not recommend it for youngsters (under the years of 12 or 13).  It's not necessarily about baseball (though that's a big part of it) but about trying to implement a…

Wild end

What a wild final night of baseball in the 2012 regular season. The night started off with several possibilities.

Being a Detroit Tigers fan I wanted the Tigers to win and the Texas Rangers to lose. If that would have happened, both teams would have ended the season with the exact same record. If that were the case Detroit would have gone on to be the 2nd seed in the America League and played either the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or the Boston Red Sox in the first round with home field… Continue

Catching Hell: ESPN Films

Finally! ESPN is airing "Catching Hell"! I have been waiting for this one ever since reading about it on Ballpark Chasers. The last I heard it was cancelled so much to my surprise ESPN is running ads that it is airing next Tuesday, September 27th. Anyone else interested in the documentary and story? You can see the mini preview here. October 14th is the anniversary- surprised they didn't wait a couple of week to premier this?

2012 MLB Schedule: Florida Marlins home opener

The Cardinals and Miami Marlins will begin the season with the opening of Florida's new ballpark on Wednesday, April 4. Anyone plan on going? Any guesses at what the ballpark will be called?

My first game!

Do you remember your first Big League baseball game? I do. I was

seven years old and my grandfather took me to see the one and only Detroit Tigers! I idolized my grandfather and for him to take me made the experience that much more special. He loved the Detroit Tigers - he loved all Detroit sports in fact. He had a room in his house dedicated to sports memorabilia. It was his office but, I remember calling it the “baseball room”. The room is no longer filled with sports memorabilia but I…

Why I'm a ballpark chaser.

I have a rather ambitious dream.  It is going to take an incredible amount of

work and dedication to accomplish but, hell, I’m an American Soldier.  I can do anything!

Let me start from the beginning.  Hi, my name is RJ Breisacher.  My guys call me SGT B.  I prefer RJ considering by the time next baseball season rolls around I will no longer be in the military.  I am currently deployed to Afghanistan.  In 2008-2009 I was in…

#19 Asheville Tourists

On a sunny and hot North Carolina summer, my lady and I ventured with our two dogs to the mountainside of the Appalachians. In between the Bilmore Estate, the hippie streets of downtown Asheville, and blue mountains of Appalachia is nestled the downhome McCormick Field. In late July, we visited my #19 ballpark, and it was everything minor league baseball should be.

WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE ASHEVILLE TOURISTS!…

Last Minute Roady Planned

I am looking for anyone that gets first word on the Sunday night baseball ESPN game for Sept.4th? I am flying to San Francisco on that Sunday morning-for a $105 flight and taking public transport to the game for $2.85. After the game, I have a one-way car rental in town(from National). If they make SF the Sunday night game I can do a Doubleheader with Oakland as the first leg. The travel idea is to drive back to…

Spring Mobile Ballpark - Salt Lake City, Utah

Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah, is absolutely one of my favorite minor league parks. A fantastic view of the nearby mountains, really, a great place to catch a game. Check out my full report… Continue

Citifield in June, 2010

This is my last posting of ballparks visited in 2010.

We were up in New York for other reasons, so checked out which team was in town – Mets, against the Twins – and planned to go.   I liked the Citibank Field space a lot, good place to walk around – from the subway you enter through a two story rotunda (main concourse is up an escalator) that is dedicated to Jackie Robinson, with lots of pictures and quotes, quite touching.  Other aspects of the park are tributes to Ebbetts Field and…

PETCO and Anaheim

Hey, I'm putting together a vacation to San Diego for next April or May.  I will easily be visiting PETCO, but wondered how difficult will it be to also squeeze in Anaheim.  I will be relying heavily on public transportation, and can stay the night of the game in Anaheim.

I see the Amtrak is a viable option, but how difficult will it be to then go from Anaheim Station to the Park?

Thanks in advance for all responses.

2012 All Star Game

I know this is a long way away, but anyone planning on attending the 2012 All Star Game? It is going to be held on Tuesday, July 10th at the newly renovated Kauffman Stadium. Tickets will go on sale someone in early 2012.

Collectable Pins - Something to Commemorate your visit

I am almost one-third of the way through my 30 parks quest, and I like to collect pins (and ticket stubs) from each ballpark. I have really nice pins from 7 of the 9 parks I have been to, and they have the stadium's name on it and most include some graphic or nod to the park's layout. The only place I have been that hasn't had a good selection was Washington D.C., and they have a wonderful logo that could be used. I would like to try and find out where to buy them online, or if you have the… Continue

Comerica Park, June, 2010 - Nats at Tigers

Comerica is a real baseball cathedral. It is designed so that downtown Detroit, which has beautiful buildings, (albeit many unoccupied) is the full panorama of the outfield, and makes it ever so much more annoying that the Capitol cannot be seen from much of Nats Park. There are large tiger sculptures at many of the entrances – skulking, snarling – and there are tiger heads with baseballs in their mouths along several of the exterior walls which look like gargoyles or sconces, and the baseballs… Continue

Canada, Eh...

Now that I have gone to Toronto and the Rogers Centre, that leaves me with a total of 13 with 19 left to go. (I also included the old Yankee and Shea stadiums. That's why when you add 19 and 13 you get 32. I will not see defunct stadiums, though, will see future ones.) This time I was following the Yankees and came out with a victory. I feel it makes more sense to follow your team, than to go to a game and not cheer for a team or a team that you dislike. Canada is a beautiful place, polite and… Continue

Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

My ballpark stop for "work" this week is the visit I paid to Dickey-Stephens Park, home of the AA (Texas League) Arkansas Travelers. A really nice ballpark located in North Little Rock, across the river from downtown Little Rock. Great looking stadium with an organist who plays right on the main concourse.… Continue

2011 MLB Playoffs

As the trade deadline and last two full month of major league baseball approach, I think it is time that I take a look at potential playoff matchups.

Looking at the National League I think everyone would agree that the NL East is home to the two best teams in the NL: the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. The Phillies will win the division and probably 105+ games. I think it is also fair to say the number two team in this division is going to be the wild card winner. There is… Continue

Nats at Indians, June 2010

I have regularly done writeups of ballparks that we have visited, so I'm trying to get these posted so that they are all collected together. To come: Comerica Park, Citifield, and new Yankee Stadium.

Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH June 12 and 13 2010

This park was opened in 1995 as Jacobs Field, and is still known in some quarters as “the Jake”. It has a nice urban feel, with some downtown buildings in the background view from the stands. As we were on foot coming to the… Continue
