It looks like the Oakland Athletics will move along with their new ballpark, Cisco Field. Mayor Bob Wasserman came out on top during Tuesday's election with 43 percent of the vote. Wasserman has been a vocal supporter of bringing a $1.8 billion “Ballpark Village” that holds 32,000 seats to the Fremont area (about 20 miles south of Oakland Coliseum). Next year they look to move forward with the environmental impact report and hopefully have Cisco Field open for the 2012 season.…

As a Mets fan since 1984, the one baseball stadium that I was always apprehensive of going to was the hallowed halls of the "House that Ruth Built". After all, the Yankees last World Series triumph in 2000 came at the expense of my team.
I really had to think about this one, and it came down to this. Even as a Yankee hater, when you look at the tradition and history that this stadium brings, and the fact that its days are now numbered, even I felt compelled to pay a visit to a place…

I'm taking the Rays in 6. Here's how I see it shaking out:
Rays take the opener behind Kazmir who is able to shut down Utley and Howard. Rays go on to win 3 of the first 4 games with David Price picking up a couple of saves. Hamels wins game 5 at home but the Rays take game 6 back at home.
Series MVP: BJ Upton

Wow, what a game last night. The Rays go through 5 pitchers in the 8th holding off the Red Sox as they strand the bases loaded. When Barltett made the error to begin the inning, you just knew this was the little opening the Red Sox needed to break through. And they nearly did it...had Coco slid to the base, instead of to the SS, he surely would have been safe, saving them another out.
David Price emerges as the new closer heading into the WS after pitching a strong ninth even after…

While I was away for a few days to see my sister in Atlanta(who I never did get to see), I decided to head to a place of serious horrors for my team - the infamous Turner Field, or as they call it, "The Ted", to see my New York Mets take on the Atlanta Braves.
At that point, the Mets were right there for both the National League East title, and the NL wild card. As we know by now, they blew both - again. I didn't write to talk about that. Instead, I will say that earlier in the day,…

I'll stick with the Phillies as my pick to make it to the World Series. I think they have an advantage over the Dodgers in their bullpen and hit with more power. I'll say Phillies in 6.
In the AL, I'm taking the Rays in 7. Home field advantage will be key for the Rays.

When we got married in 2006, we chose to go to Boston for our honeymoon. Sure, it's an awesome city full of history and touristy things to do. But that wasn't why we wanted to go there. Our sole reason was to go to Fenway Park. From that moment on, we decided that our vacations every year would be to a city where we could see a baseball game. So far, we're 3 for 3.
This summer, we were able to hit three more stadiums this summer, thanks to an out-of-town wedding not far from…

With the White Sox capturing the final playoff spot, time for some playoff predictions:
Phillies over Brewers in 3. Great offense, great bullpen for the Phillies. Lidge has a chance to shine with no Pujols to face this year in the postseason.
Cubs over Dodgers in 5. This will be a very competitive series and it wouldn't surprise me if the Dodgers win. Lowe, Billingsley and Kuroda were solid down the stretch and there are some question marks with Zambrano and…

You gotta love these races for the final playoff spots. Last night (Thurs) I enjoyed watching the Twins come back with 2 in the 8th to tie it, and then flip over to the Brewers game (thanks to Directv's Extra Innings package) to catch Braun's walk-off slam. The Twins needed to sweep the Sox in order to stay in the chase, and now they have a half-game lead. The AL Central may come down to a make-up game on Monday for Chicago, followed by a one game playoff for division on Tue..
After…

As I sit here watching the final regular season game ever to be played at Yankee Stadium, I cannot help but feel as though we are losing a part of baseball. I get this way too with each passing of a former Major League Baseball star. That’s life, I guess- all good things must come to an end. Despite being a baseball fanatic and ballpark guru, this is the first time I have felt this way about an end of a ballpark. However, Yankee Stadium is not your typical ballpark. No other ballpark in…

yes, the hurricane seemed to kill the Astros momentum (only 2 runs in past 3 games), but the Brewers continue to free fall (losers of 5 in a row), and the Mets (3 straight loses falling out of 1st place) haven't figured out their bullpen issues...there's still hope!

The incredible run continues as the Astros have passed the Cards and have now tied the Phillies sitting 4 back of the Brewers in the WC hunt. The Brewers can't score runs now...and where would they be without C.C.? This weekend's series against the Cubbies looms large as does the hurricane aiming towards Houston.
Here's a recap of the Astros recent run from MLB.com:
A 2-1 loss to Cincinnati on Aug. 26 left the Astros with a 66-66 record and no chance of reaching the…

for Mark Saccomanno last night. You hear about players who have hit a HR in their first major league game, but what about this storyline:
It was scoreless in the fifth of Monday night's Astros-Pirates game when 28-year-old Mark Saccomanno stepped to the plate for the first time in the big leagues and hit the first pitch out of the park for a 1-0 lead. He's a 23rd-round draft pick from Klein Forest High School in Houston. His parents were in the stands as he got the call in Round Rock…

The Astros have won 11 of 12 and are now 10 games over .500 at 77-67. They're 30-11 since July 27 and 44-27 since June 20. With a win tonight, looking to pass the Cardinals. It will take another incredible finish, much like that of '04 and '05, to close the gap but if the Brewers continue to blow 9th inning leads...

After winning 8 in a row, the Astros are 6 ½ back of the wild card. Check their remaining schedule…13 home and 9 road, and only 6 of the 22 remaining games are against teams with winning records (Cubs, Marlins). Cubbies in Houston next weekend...should be interesting.

now that I have a blog, I feel obligated to try this blogging out. Some random thoughts from this past weekend...the opening of college football season:
--Nice win for Texas. Attendance was 98,053! I'm trying to remember what the largest attendence was for the games I attended in '86-'90...70,000-75,000? And, this was only for a "big" SWC game; the opener vs. a non-conference team was never a sell out.
--Not worried about our next opponent, UTEP, as they dropped their opener to…
