While I was away for a few days to see my sister in Atlanta(who I never did get to see), I decided to head to a place of serious horrors for my team - the infamous Turner Field, or as they call it, "The Ted", to see my New York Mets take on the Atlanta Braves.
At that point, the Mets were right there for both the National League East title, and the NL wild card. As we know by now, they blew both - again. I didn't write to talk about that. Instead, I will say that earlier in the day, I got to take a tour of the stadium, and I will say that except for those $1 seats way up in the left field upper deck, there really isn't a bad spot in the place to watch a game.
Getting to see Hank Aaron's locker, and taking a picture with Jackie Robinson's number 42 will always be memorable for me. Of course, while in the Braves museum and watching all of the great highlights from the Hank Aaron home run on 1972 that eclipsed Babe Ruth to winning the NL pennant in 1999(I still have Kenny Rogers nightmares) wasn't my favorite part, to say the least. It was still a great experience, though.
Of course, getting to see the game that night, and sitting in the All You Can Eat section was the best. If only they had cheese to go with their hamburgers. Anyway, I got to sit with 3 other Mets fans at the game, so I think that at least somewhat protected me from the wrath of the Braves fans. Most importantly, we saw a Mets victory, which weren't very many, heading down the stretch.
I have to say that being in Atlanta worked out pretty well, and hopefully, I will get to see Turner Field again next year. In a place that my team almost never wins, it's ironic that I would look to go back there, but I guess that's the adventurer in me.
Thanks for following my trip to Turner Field. Next stop: Yankee Stadium.
