DREI'S AAA TRIP..... CHENEY FIELD, TACOMA

Photobucket

Cheney Field has been a springboard for many MLB players in it's 50 years of service. Players such as Gaylord Perry, Juan Marichal, Mark McGwire, Alex Rodriguez, to name a few, once honed their skills here before the bigs. Cheney Field is currently housed by the Seattle Mariners AAA affiliate Tacoma Rainiers. If you walk on the concourse behind 3rd base, you will se a nice mural of teams whom have had the minor league affilliate here over the years.

A visit to Cheney Field is kinda a visit back in time. What I like'd about my visit here it's non-descript location, which is the norm for most minor league ballparks. You wont really find too much to do around here, and the stadium does show it's age, but what it may lack in terms of other activities, it makes up for with it's I guess you can call it, woodsy surroundings, with all the trees that go beyond the outfield walls. And because of the non-descript location, the emphasis is really where it should be, the game itself.

Some of you may be wondering if you can actually see Mt. Rainier from the seating locations. If your in one of the last seats in the upper seating area down the left field line, you can, but your view may be obstructed as seen here.

If you should make it out to Cheney Field, if you get a chance, you may want to sit next to the statue of Ben Cheney, for whom the stadium is named after. Ben Cheney was a local businessman who was intrumental in bringing baseball to the city of Tacoma

BEN CHENEY

When taking in a game here don't expect to many frills because there isn't much to do, and the yard doesn't have to many extras either, just come here with the expectations that you went off the beaten path to see what you may say someday, some future MLBers. The way the minor league baseball experience should be.
