I just got tickets to the Hall of Fame Classic in Cooperstown on Memorial Day Weekend. Anyone else planning to be up there then? SO excited. Package includes a meet-and-greet with former players and some Hall of Famers. Have not been to Cooperstown in over a decade and this seems like the perfect time to return!

This trip was beyond amazing and I recommend to all you for next year if you have the opportunity. I got to see Hideki Matsui hit a home run in the Hall of Fame Classic at Doubleday Field, then later that evening I went to a meet-and-greet at the Hall and met Phil Niekro, Robbie Alomar, Ozzie Smith, Rollie Fingers and Andre Dawson (Eddie Murray was there too but I mssed him), along with many recently retired players like Jeff Conine and the aforementioned Matsui. A great little town and lots of fun!
That sounds incredible. Supposed to rain all weekend there, but hopefully the game will get in just fine. Phil Niekro is supposed to be a coach/manager this year, and at his age maybe he can still throw a knuckler.
Enjoy your trip. I am not going this year. I went a few years ago whn Bob Feller played an inning in the game.
Walking distance is even better! That way you don't have to worry about the lack of parking near the HOF!
Excellent. I booked a B&B that's a few blocks off Main St but still walking distance. The bat store sounds terrific, actually.
There is also a small Baseball Wax Museum that you can go in on Main St. Nothing great but if you have time, it is great. And there is a baseball bat store where they make bats. Love walking in there for the smell of the fresh wood!
The motel where I have stayed in the past is Hickory Grove Motor Inn. Its nothing great but decent rates and right on the lake. Watch the minimum night requirements (goes true for all of the hotels / motels around there).
Awesome, thank you! I have not been to any of those places.
I would have liked to but I am out of town that weekend...Enjoy it. There have been lots of changes since you were there - both in the HOF and around Cooperstown.
For other sites, look at Ommegang Brewery and Cooperstown Brewing Company. Ommegang is my favorite of the 2. Further from Cooperstown, there is a great car museum (www.classiccarmuseum.org) that is worth a few hours. Try to get out to Lake Otsego as well as the Youth Baseball Fields south of town which are a great site too (Field of Dreams Park).
