I'm going to Kansas City and St. Louis on the same trip in June. I'll arrive in Kansas City on Saturday morning for a Saturday afternoon game. Then I'll head to St. Louis for a Sunday afternoon game. The big problem for me is that there's only one airline that flies from Kansas City to St. Louis, Southwest. They only have one flight between the end of the Saturday game and the start of the Sunday game. It arrives in St. Louis at 12:25 PM, only 45 minutes before the first pitch. That could be cutting it a little tight.

Since I have so much time between the games I looked for alternatives. There's no Amtrak train. There is a bus, but it takes 5+ hours. Knowing buses, it'll probably take longer. I don't want that.

I thought of renting a car and driving, but found that the cost of renting a car at the Kansas City airport and returning it at the St. Louis airport would be three times the cost of flying. Ridiculous. Renting a car in downtown KC and returning it in St. Louis would be half that cost, but then I'd have to find a way to get to downtown KC.

So I'm not sure what to do. Thoughts?

That may work for you, but I chose not to do Amtrak because the last train on Saturday leaves during the game and the first train on Sunday wouldn't get me there until after the game starts. Secondarily, I can't see a reason to take a 5 hour train when I can drive it in 3 and a half.

On my all 30 trip this year, I am taking Amtrak from KC to St. Louis. Business Class for $80 and a 5 hour trip.

I double checked. $29. I know the Super Shuttle is more expensive than $18 in LA. I guess it is in KC too.

$29 has to be off as it was only $18 for me this year in NYC. Did you search the "shared van service"? $18 should be the max and here is 10% off. http://www.supershuttle.com/Sales/WinterSale2014.aspx

I found a solution. If I rent a car from Avis in North Kansas City I can get one that I can return in St. Louis the next evening for $177 with taxes. That's actually $9 less than it would've cost to rent cars for a day in each city and the Southwest flight that'd get me in at the bad time. So that's a win. I checked Super Shuttle and their rate was $29, not $16. Did I get that wrong? I figure I'll stay overnight somewhere between Kansas City and St. Louis. Any suggestions?

You almost have to do a rental car in this case. Have you searched multiple car rental dealers for the best deal? I likeKayak. Usually through the airport is the most expensive.

Okay. I get from the airport downtown. But how do I get to the game and then how do i get to St. Louis?

Have you looked at airport SuperShuttle from the airport to downtown? Should only be $16. http://www.supershuttle.com/Locations/MCIAirportShuttleKansasCity.aspx

I'm flying into Kansas City International Airport. I think the only way to get to Kauffman is to rent a car. I'm ending my trip in St. Louis the next day and catching a flight back to LA from there.

Dave - How are you arriving into KC? I'll assume via Kansas City International Airport. How are you getting to the Kauffman Stadium? And where do you want to end up at the end of your trip?

I've not done the two stadiums in one trip; only separate trips.
