Hi folks! I'm new to the site, so I thought that I'd take a moment to introduce myself. It's so nice to find people with the same interests & the love of baseball (for a while there, I thought I was alone - LOL).
My list of "current" ballparks is at 22, at the beginning of the 2010 season. My "overall" lists stands at 34; counting parks that are no longer with us: Comiskey Park (WHITE SOX - numerous times), Yankee Stadium (YANKS - '05), Shea (METS - '05), Tiger Stadium (TIGERS - '00), old Busch (CARDINALS - numerous times), Three Rivers (PIRATES - '91), Riverfront (REDS - '91), Fulton-County Stadium (BRAVES - '84), RFK (NATIONALS - '05), Olympic Stadium (EXPOS - '82), Astrodome (ASTROS - '81), and the old Texas Rangers ballpark (RANGERS - '81).
I was born with undying love of baseball back in the "astroturf/cookie-cutter days". I was fortunate to have parents who were over-the-road truck drivers & was able to take a few weeks and travel with them during my summers. Whenever we went to a baseball city, and if the team was in town & time allowed, I was lucky to have talked my parents into taking in a game (even if it was for only a few innings).
I always told myself that, when I got older, I would take my summers & "complete the mission". So, starting in 2002, I would plan mini-ballpark vacations each year (usually 5-6 parks on each trip). I couldn't think of a better way to spend a vacation - hopping from city to city, visiting historical/landmark sites of the town, then catching a ballgame.
In July, I will knock 3 more "new" parks off my list (Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Nationals Park) as I make my first trip to Cooperstown; to see my childhood hero, Andre Dawson, take his place among baseball's greats.
I'll take some time & scan many of the pics from my adventures from the past and post them on the site. It's nice to have a forum to share experiences & get pointers from other travelers. Happy, safe travels, for all of you during this upcoming year. Here's to the majesty & tradition of "Our National Pastime"!! PLAY BALL!!
