Wow Andrew. You're quite the well rounded sports fan!
I've been an avid Flyers fan since the '80s and have seen every NHL team play. I also saw the Hartford Whalers, Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques and original Winnipeg Jets. I was at the Flyers unfortunate 9-8 loss to the "new" Jets last week.
I've seen NHL games in Boston Garden, Brendan Byrne Arena, Cap Centre, the Forum, Hartford Civic Center, Nassau Coliseum, Pittsburgh Civic Arena, Prudential Center, the Spectrum, and Wells Fargo Center. Several of these I saw in the late '80s and they are no longer used or no longer exist. I don't chase the Flyers like I do the Phillies, so my future hockey venues are probably limited. Having said this, if I had it to do over again, I would've renewed my passport and planned a trip to Toronto for Mark Howe's much delayed induction into the Hall of Fame. Had I been able to do so, I'd have tried to see the Caps @ Leafs game. The Phillies play at the Blue Jays in June... if I'm able to get up there that weekend, I'll get to the NHL HOF then. Also, the Flyers play the Pens at the same time the Phillies open against the Pirates next season. If I go to PNC Park in April again, I will try to see the Pens new digs, too.
Am not a phanatic of the NFL or the NBA, but saw the Eagles play the Cowboys, Redskins, Raiders and Giants, all at defunct Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia, and I've seen the Sixers play the Raptors, Wizards and Nets at Wells Fargo. I've seen the Philadelphia (now Adirondack) Phantoms and Philadelphia Wings (lacrosse) play in the Spectrum and Wells Fargo.
I've been to Union games against Red Bull, Dynamo, Sporting KC, DC United and FC Dallas, all at PPL Park in Chester, PA. A friend and I are threatening to follow the Union around a little in the future, though my priority remains to see all the MLB parks.
With the hundreds of MLB games I've been to (I have Phillies partial season tickets and have been to Fenway, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Turner Field, Camden Yards, Nationals Park, PNC Park, Great American Ball Park, Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium, Petco Park and Citizen's Bank), it never occured to me that there could be a team I've never seen live. After much thought, I have no memory of ever having seen the Mariners or Royals. I could be wrong, but if I've seen either of them it escapes me. One of the road trips I'm strongly considering in 2012 is September 14th weekend: Phils @ Astros and Mariners @ Rangers. That would leave only the Royals... you've now motivated me to make sure I see them somehow this coming year. I saw many games at Veteran's Stadium before its demise, including several against the Montreal Expos.
If I am able to head to Toronto to cheer on the Phils this June, I may ask you for advice. i.e.: Is it worth staying in Rogers Centre one night? It's stupid expensive. The airport is in Mississauga, right? Should I stay there and take public transportation into Toronto (if I don't want to rent a car)? What to see, etc.
Thanks again for your post. Really got me thinking.
