Given the proximity it’s no surprise that I have been to Kauffman Stadium innumerable times. Bill and I made a weekend of it every summer. My son came along with us a couple of times.
The stadium shares a parking lot with Arrowhead Stadium. It’s right off the Interstate and lacks the charm of a neighborhood stadium, but there is something to be said for easy access to the ballpark. The fountains are lovely and there isn’t a bad seat in the ballpark. I like the third base line seats. I’ve also driven a van full of kids to KC to see the Royals play the Yankees from $7 seats at the top of the stadium. (I don’t think the $7 seats exist anymore after the 2014 dream season.)
My son and I caught a game on June 20, 2015 on the way to debate camp. It was Mike Moustakas Bobblehead Doll Giveaway Day. As is our usual, we arrived early (1.5 hours before first pitch), but we weren’t early enough for the bobblehead. It was close to 100 degrees and we were in full sun in the outfield. I have never seen Kauffman Stadium so full. As many times as we have been to Kauffman Stadium, somehow we have never gotten barbecue. Frank and I gorged on ribs and a pork sandwich.
