I am taking a trip in July to do the Sunshine Pair (Rays & Marlins) We arrive in Tampa and have our time there mostly figured out. We are visiting Tropicana Field, Steinbrenner Field, Yuengling Brewery, Raymond James Stadium, and the SS American Victory. The two days in Miami we only have the Marlins game scheduled. I was hoping someone who lives in the general Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area, or has done this trip, has any suggestions for things to do while we are there. It doesn't have to be sports related. Also if there is something that I should not miss in Tampa that isn't on my list please let me know. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

So, how did everyone's trip to Miami/Tampa turn out? I am planning this for next summer (2016). I will be traveling with at least 2 kids, maybe 3. So far definitely on our list is LEGOLAND Park and hotel 1 night, 2 nights in Tampa (planning on 1 game, helicopter tour, beach time, and brewery tour) and then 1 or 2 nights in Miami. Haven't decided that for sure. Leaning towards only 1 night in Miami and spending the other night somewhere along our drive back home which is 15 hours. Suggestions, comments would be awesome! Thanks!

I'm going to Miami on vacation in early July. Thanks for some of the ideas, Juan! I never thought about Wynwood, will put that into consideration as well!

Hi Lem, I live in Miami and there are an enormous of things you can do besides the Marlins game. If you have a car (which you should in Miami), definitely go to Miami Beach. Specifically, go to Lincoln Road. You can shop, eat, people watch and even walk to the beautiful beach from there. Go to the Wynwood Arts District and take in a cup of coffee at Panther Coffee. Wywnood is 1 of the 20 most hip neighborhoods in the US. If you have time, you can do the touristy stuff like going to the everglades, going to the sawgrass mills mall. Either way, enjoy!

My girlfriend and I did this same trip in September 2012. She is not much of a baseball fan, but really enjoyed it. We only spent the day in the Tampa Bay area, so I cannot help you there. As for Miami, make sure you go down Alligator Alley and take a fan boat ride. We went with Osceola Panthers, it is a smaller set up, but the guide/driver was excellent and that ride on the fan boat was killer. I am not sure where you are from, but hitting Miami Beach to go into the the ocean was nice as well and if you are going with a gal, there are lots of shops for her to go into. Make sure you type "Washington Ave Miami Beach" into your GPS because "Washington Ave Miami" will take you to some not so nice parts of town, trust been there done that. :) If you have the time, drive to Ft. Lauderdale and take the Jungle Cruise. It takes you past all of these huge mansions and the guide was pretty funny as well. You are probably going to be dying from the heat in July, we were and we went in September, make sure your car has A/C. Have a great trip.

One suggestion for Tampa if you like breweries is Cigar City Brewing. Awesome Beer and right near Yuengling Brewery.

For Miami, I would make sure to go into the Everglades (Shark City has a great tram tour). Or airboats on the outskirts of the park. An amazing sight.
