I will be making my first trip to Wrigley Field sometime in late may-early june of 2013. A group of friends and I will be traveling from eastern Ohio. This will be our second ballpark chase as a group; our first one being in 2011 when we visited Fenway Park for the first time. I need some tips on where to stay, where to eat, where to sit, the best way to get tickets, and any other relevant info that can be provided for this trip.

Best way to get tickets is on a computer the day tickets go on sale. Will require patience though. I sat in the grandstand behind 1B when I went. Seats are incredibly small and rows are very long without a breaks so you may have to crawl over 25 people if you are in the middle...That being said, there is only 1 park like Wrigley and its Fenway...

Id recommend staying someplace in downtown Chicago and taking the El train to Wrigley. Get there early. Barhop (4 main bars are in each "corner of the stadium"). We went to the Cubby Bear and loved it. THe day I went, it was a Saturday afternoon game against the Cardinals. We got there at 9am for a 2pm game and bars were filling up. We had a blast and drank too much. I got a foul ball (only 1 I've ever gotten during an MLB game). After the game, we jumped back on the El and hightailed it to a Red Sox at White Sox game at US Cellular Field (if you are going to Chicago, go here too)

Thanks for the info Tim. Now one thing I love about Fenway is the pre-game carnival atmosphere on Yawkey Way and the other surrounding streets. How does the pre-game atmosphere compare in Wrigleyville?

Being a Red Sox fan, I cannot give you an unbiased opinion on that but its pretty close...I would get there very early and walk around.

I would recommend staying near Grant Park or on a side street off of Micigan Avenue within a few blocks of the river. Navy Pier is nice and you'll be within walking distance of Gino's East Pizza and the Red Line train to Wrigley. Also, I would suggest checking out Carmine's on Rush Street for great food. Also (though they are expensive) check out a Brazillian Steakhouse. They are awesome and will not stop bringing out different cuts of meat until you're done eating.

Definitely have to eat at Gino's East Pizza, it's the original Gino's in Chicago and the most busiest. It's a block or two off of the Magnificent Mile. You won't be disappointed, however, be prepared for a little wait.

We sat on 3rd base line and had great views of the entire field. Wrigley Field is an awesome stadium with much history. Hope you have a great time out there! We stayed in Downtown Chicago and were close to everything, and Wrigley Field is an easy hop on the train.

Definitely get your tickets ahead of time and make sure not to sit in the homerun section if you want to see/experience the old days scoreboard, where everything is changed manually. We sat 2nd level, above 3rd base and they were decent seats, paying around $50 each. Chicago is great for shopping if you are into that, also if really interested in baseball in general be sure to catch a White Sox game. You'll have to watch your schedule for seeing both teams though. And riding the "L" is pretty easy, so just make sure when you reserve your hotel you ask if the L is close by and a quick route to Wrigley, if you stay a few miles away it'll of course be cheaper than staying within walking distance. I've been to Chicago 3 times, and generally speaking it's a just a great place for a get away. :)

I dont know if you already booked your plans or not, but, I have a little input to add. A pretty good place to stay, with-in walking distance, is The Majestic. It is a boutique hotel on Brompton at Lake Shore, about a 15-20 min walk, through "boystown" to Wrigley. Not a bad walk at all.

As far as where to eat, if you like bar food then you will be fine just about anywhere in Wrigleyville.....I recommend Lucky's on Clark just south of Addison. Murphy's Bleachers also has a killer cheeseburger when the Cubs are down 8 to 0 in the 4th inning and it is 23 degrees outside, trust me. If you are looking for good Chicago Pizza, do not leave the city without going to Lou Malnati's...the closest one to Wrigley is on Sheffield at Wrightwood. I would catch a cab, but you could walk it.....I have many times. Don't know if you are a Cubs fan or not, if you are, probably want to check out Harey Caray's Steakhouse downtown. Obviously a cab ride, and very expensive....if you dont want to go just because it is Harey Caray's then I would skip it (maybe just pop in for a drink in the bar to the right when you walk in.....the "Bartman Ball" is on display just inside the door).

As far as where to sit, there really isnt a bad seat in the house. Some are restricted view but the ticket should be clearly marked if so. Ofcourse, I would recomend the bleachers....if you want to sit front row, I would recomend getting there 1 to 1 1/2 hours before the game (remember, the line for the bleachers lines up on Waveland and Sheffield...people seem to flock to the Sheffield side for some reason). If you decide to not sit in the bleachers.....vistor side gets more sun, use that info according to the weather while you are there.

Tickets are the same for just about any other sporting event.....Stubhub is usually a good place to start. Craigslist can be a gold mine if you catch season ticket holders who can't attend that days game. There is always scalpers on the outside....blood suckers!!

2 pieces of advise....there is no wave at Wrigley, and if you sit in the bleachers and catch an opposing home run.....THROW IT BACK !!!!

Most of all....have fun, Wrigley Field is the most beautiful place on earth.....you are going to love it !!!!!!
