I really liked the Days Inn in Chicago. It's close enough to the trains and walkable to Wrigley (about a mile).
I was in Chicago in 2013 to see both a Cubs and Whitesox game, but we luckily did them on seperate days. We parked right beside Wrigley in someones backyard, which was great for getting to the game, but horrific when trying to leave. The drive in from the interstate took us 10-15 minutes, but the drive out to the interstate took us 2 hours and when we got to the interstate it was gridlock and at a stand still. The next day we left early to go to US Cellular and we had quite the traffic to deal with again, but being on the interstate and not side streets like you will be on near Wrigley did help. We may have been very unlucky with traffic, but I would suggest you take the train if at all possible. As for a hotel, we stayed at a hotel near the airport for ease for our flight home, so I cannot help you with that. Good luck getting to the games, however you decide, and hopefully you see some good games.
It sounds like you are driving around the Midwest, so you can always just drive to a train station and park there if you choose a hotel not in walking distance of a stop. I did that way back in '97 when I 1st went to Wrigley and it worked out quite well for us then. Just another option for you.
I went on two separate trips to Chicago and stayed near O'Hare each time. I found that the least expensive quality hotels were there. I took the subway to Wrigley the first time and to US Cellular the second time.
I didn't check in on this site until post-trip, but my Dad & I did the Chicago double-dip on Monday as well! GREAT pitchers duel in the Cubs-Indians game, capped with a walk-off home run! The White Sox game started slooooow, but ended up being a good 1-run game as well. Great baseball day!
