I live and have grown up in the DFW area. The area by the Rangers park has nothing of value worth seeing. No public transportation and just suburban commercial/residential area. Six Flags is nearby if that is something you want to spend a day with, but you can get that anywhere. Downtown Fort Worth has Sundance Square and just north of downtown is the Stockyards where all the tourists go. Good for 11 and 13 year olds to walk around and see either area. Plenty of restaurants too.

If you do want to get a beverage and some food before heading to the ballpark, Lincoln Square has a few restaurants a mile or two from the park. They used to have a shuttle service to the ballpark, but they discontinued that last season, so you may still have to pay for parking nearby the park. I usually park at the Sheraton for $10-15 and it's walking distance.

Btw, with the summer sun, don't buy seats anywhere near left field or 3rd base side. You should be fine first base side or nosebleeds behind home plate.

Just read this and it is all good info, especially about where to sit in Arlington. Also avoid RF because you can't see the replays or scoreboard. As for stuff to do, I would recommend spending only the time necessary in each city to see the game(s) you are planning on going to. I would try to stay in the Austin/New Braunfels area for the duration of your trip if possible. Austin is A LOT of fun with tons to do (check out Barton Springs), and Schlitterbahn Water Park in New Braunfels is a blast. This is also close enough to San Antonio to go see the Alamo.

They have added on a new video replay board so you can see it from right field. Opening this year.

and parking at the ballpark is only $15 so I don't know why you'd park so far away as the Sheraton. Come in from the south for much easier entry and exit.

I don't agree with Rushi at all. I also live in the area and there are tons of things to do, in the area and not far away.
First off in Arlington, across the street you can walk to Cowboys stadium and take a tour they have every day. Your kids will enjoy it. You also have the Bowling Hall of Fame Museum within walking distance. You also have Six Flags over Texas to walk to and Hurricane Harbor on the other side of the freeway.
In Grand Prairie a short drive away you can catch an Airhogs baseball game which is a minor league park and a very nice one. It sits next door to the Ripley's museum and wax museum. If you want to go to Ft Worth, you can go to the Stockyards and see the Old West. They have a great maze that you all can do that is timed. Fort Worth also has a great zoo. They also have a great Segway tour from downtown to the stockyards that your boys would love.
If you go to Dallas, there is the Perot Museum which is absolutely fantastic for kids, but I'd suggest booking them in advance. Walking distance from there is to the Dallas Aquarium and AAC where the Mavericks and Stars play.
I do agree about getting seats on the first base side.
In Houston, they have the NASA space center which your boys will love. Moody Gardens in nearby Galveston and even Old Galveston is a cool place to go for lunch and walk around. This is where the cruise ships all port.
If you're going to San Antonio (which is definitely not en route), everyone sees the Riverwalk which is unique (across the street is the Alamo), but the better restaurants are in the Mercado, a short walk from there.
Also, find Lulu's Bakery in San Antonio. They have cinnamon rolls the size of your head.
If you need more places, I can provide them. If you can't tell, I have sought out almost all the places to see in Texas.

Thanks. Here is the tentative plan at this point. We get into Houston Saturday afternoon. The Houston game is Sunday and we plan to spend Monday at the Space Center. We only have to be in Arlington on Friday night for the Rangers game, although will probably shoot to get there Thursday evening. So, we will work through San Antonio, Austin, and Waco from Houston (I know its not the most direct, but the kids want to see the Alamo and UT and Baylor). We'll have Saturday in Arlington and fly out Sunday morning.

Shortly after you pass through Austin, you'll see Salado. On the east side of the freeway is a town called Salado. In it is an old hotel and restaurant called The Stagecoach Inn, with good food and some nice shops to wander through. The restaurant has been there well over a hundred years and people like Buffalo Bill have eaten there. Not sure about their mid week lunch, but on weekends it is a heck of a deal.
It's right off the freeway, so easy enough to exit then get back on the freeway. Also you will see Inner Space and Dinosaur Valley outside of Austin. These are caves they discovered under the freeway that you can tour.
Not much to see in Waco, but you'll drive right through it. The famous restaurant there is George's. Known for their burgers, however, we weren't impressed. More of a place to go after the football game. Baylor's new football stadium is nice.
I have heard Waco has a pretty good Escape Room if you're interested, but never been to it.
BTW, just outside of Austin is Round Rock, which has the Rangers AAA park, owned by Nolan Ryan. The Round Rock Express play there. You may want to check out their ballpark. Guve you the chance to see Joey Gallo and Nomar Manzara before they become huge stars.
